This restaurant is in the forest but only a very short drive out of Fontainebleau.  It was a very lucky find!  French local, nice ambience in a forest style lodge, friendly service and lovely tasty food.  A nice change from the restaurants in town.  You need a car though.

La Croix d'Augas

From the moment we arrived, we were made to feel welcome. Our server was extremely helpful and friendly. We were presented with beautiful dishes, with a complimentary pre-starter of cold watermelon soup with purple flower garnish, along with beautiful savoury parmesan biscuits in the shape of salamanders and a small dollop of tapenade. My starter was a lovely round, colourful stack of grilled vegetables with mozarella, parma ham, and pesto. Our main course was a sort of fish salad topped with a savoury biscuit and shaved fennel - also topped with small edible flowers. We were brought a complimentary dessert of blackberry compote, blueberry fool, and a financier. The wine was delicious, the food was tasty and fresh, and the service was phenomenal. Thank you for accommodating our requests, telling us about the train times back to Paris, and for an overall special evening! It was fantastic.

Excellent dinner at this restaurant. Best mozzarella &amp; tomato salad ever &amp; the duck breast was also very good. Generous portions so no room for dessert, but good coffee to finish. Ambience a little  odd, but staff were friendly &amp; working hard.

The sushi was quite mediocre compared to what I have had any otter place. The nigiri were nice, but the maki were loosely rolled and with very little fish. Service was alright.

The attitude of the service staff is very good, active and enthusiastic, and help solve small problems 😁

This is our fourth day in France, and it was our favorite dinner experience by far. Food and drinks were superb: starting with petite charcuterie, smoked salmon plate, 6 escargots, to moules Tendence (I think that&rsquo;s the name), burger with ch&egrave;vre, agneau/lamb shank, and desserts - sorbet, &Icirc;le flottante (meringue in vanilla cream sauce, cr&egrave;me br&ucirc;l&eacute;e). Our waiter (name?) was very kind and friendly. He let me practice my French and spoke English with the rest. 😊
